Browned Butter Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter:

    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

    • Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the butter foams and then turns golden brown with a nutty aroma (about 5-7 minutes).

    • Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

  2. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and granulated sugar.

    • Add the browned butter to the sugar and whisk until smooth.

    • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cornstarch.

    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until fully combined.

  3. Chill the Dough:

    • Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  4. Shape and Bake:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.

    • Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

    • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set.

  5. Cool and Enjoy:

    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

The cornstarch helps to make the cookies soft and chewy by keeping them moist!
